Hospitalization: Kelli was admitted to the hospital from 6/22/07-6/27/07 for pain management. There the doctors were able to see her have three different episodes arching backwards and screaming from pain. They were able to help rule out different things by x-ray and ultrasound, but unfortunately were not able to figure out how to completely make Kelli comfortable. We went into the hospital thinking strongly that her pain was coming from her G-tube or stomach discomfort. We all felt when we left that her pain and discomfort is from her MLD and spasms. During this time, she began taking a low dose of Paxil for anxiety. She began to let other people hold her where before she would not. Her bowel movements became regular and we have not needed to use Miralax since. There was a little bile found in her gall bladder so she was put on Ursodiol. The plan for pain was to try Lorazepam (Ativan) when she had intense pain (episodes).
Hospitalization Again: Kelli was admitted to the hospital from 7/28/07-8/2/07. She began throwing up and continued all day long not being able to keep any of her medications down. In the hospital she received meds and fluid through an IV. While we were there, her breathing began to become worse where she needed oxygen. It was here that her doctors began to explain to us that it doesn’t appear that she has very much time left.
Positioning- Kelli appears to be a little more relaxed. She has continued to let others hold her at home and to be laid in her bed awake falling asleep on her own. Since we purchased a foam mattress topper, hot spots of laying in one position too long have not been an issue.
